New System Delivers Public Safety and Cellular Service Plus Future-Proof Support Without Hardware Upgrades

San Jose, CA – March 14, 2016Zinwave, a global provider of wideband distributed network solutions for in-building wireless and IP coverage, today announced that the City of Bellevue, Washington has deployed Zinwave’s UNItivity wideband distributed wireless system in its 650,000-square foot City Hall complex. The Zinwave system supports both public safety and commercial cellular frequencies for the City, and uniquely offers the ability to support additional cellular frequencies and providers in the future without the need for hardware upgrades.

In replacing an older DAS that supported only two frequencies, the City selected Zinwave’s solution because it wanted a system that would handle any frequency or mobile operator without equipment upgrades. In addition, the City liked UNItivity’s all-fiber infrastructure because it allowed for use of existing fiber in the building, thereby reducing installation complexity and expenses.

“Providing public safety radio and cellular services throughout the building by leveraging our existing fiber-optic investments and getting away from the traditional coax-based DAS was important to us,” said Jim Rawley, Network Systems and Security Lead in the IT Department for the City of Bellevue. “Safety for staff, security and innovation are paramount. We are always looking for ways to improve performance and reliability.”

The Zinwave system at City Hall supports 800 MHz public safety plus 700 MHz LTE, 850 MHz cellular, 1900 MHz PCS, and 2100 MHz AWS frequencies. While the system today supports just one major cellular carrier, the City is in negotiations to add others to the system, and can do so by simply integrating them into the UNItivity head-end. Zinwave’s wideband DASsupports any combination of wireless and IP services between 150MHz-2700MHz on a one layer infrastructure, regardless ofprotocol or modulation scheme. It is also the only system to support multiple FDD and TDD LTE services simultaneously across any spectrum allocated globally.

“Enterprises, municipalities, and other organizations need to support a wide array of radio frequencies in order to provide complete support for employees, visitors and first responders,” said John Spindler, vice president of marketing at Zinwave. “We have the only distributed wireless system that supports any current or future wireless frequency without hardware upgrades, so it’s the only truly future-proof solution.”
